We started with the base. Using Crayola Model Magic in primary colors, student mixed colors to create a swirly base. Then they created the trees gluing pom-poms on pre-cut pipe cleaners. (Elmer's worked fine, we talked about holding the pom-pom on for 30 seconds. A hot glue gun would probably be easier.)
Art projects for kindergarteners and first graders focusing on specific artists, the elements of art, our classroom units of study and more!
Sculpture: Dr. Seuss's Truffula Trees
The week of Dr. Seuss's birthday we made sculpture versions of the Truffula trees from The Lorax. The first step was to look at a variety of Dr. Seuss books to talk about his artistic style. We came up with a list of "describing words" that describe his art (kooky, bright, colorful, swirly, not-real, fantasy, interesting, etc...).
